NW GP9 #620 - Norfolk & Western |
| Description: |
Luck was on this sharp looking loco's side! It's one of the few that was saved from scrapping and has landed at the North Carolina Transportation Museum at Spencer, NC on the active roster. Originally built by EMD as NW GP9 #620, it is a 1,750 horsepower GP9 that was used in freight service on the N&W. It was donated to the museum in 1985 in the railroad’s simplified black and white “NW” paint scheme. The locomotive was repainted by the museum in 1986 in Tuscan Red paint to match Norfolk & Western’s passenger locomotives for use on the museum passenger train. The 620 was again repainted in 2018 and operates now in the “as-delivered” paint scheme that it wore from the factory in 1958. No photograper was listed for the photo. |
