ATSF GP9 #727 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe |
| Description: |
Good looking high nose GP9 stands at the Grand Canyon Village yard ready to pull the tourist train back to Williams, AZ. EMD built this loco in May of 1956 as ATSF #727 (serial #21565). As part of Santa Fe's system-wide renumbering and rebuilding programs in the early 1970s, the unit was renumbered from 727 to 2927. Following extensive overhaul at Cleburne, TX from GP9 to GP9u, it was renumbered again to 2286. After the ATSF/BN merger, it became BNSF 1672. As of 2010, it was still active on the BNSF roster. Jim Lockart took this color slide which is now in my rr collection. |
