RDG 4-4-0C #269 - Philadelphia & Reading |
Description: |
Nice side view of the Burnham, Wms & Co 4-4-0C American camelback built for the Philadelphia & Reading (RDG) in April of 1901 (bldr #18924). Specs - class D-5f, 68.5" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 21x22" cylinders, engine weight of 141,291 lb, tractive effort of 24,078 lb. Most noticeable about this camelback design was its almost-square bore/stroke ratio. Seems likely to have been required by the hilly profiles over which these engines had to pull passenger trains. The class was retired between 1928-36. Albert A. Schrum photo |
