BNSF 1658 - BNSF 2674 |
Description: |
BNSF 1658 - BNSF 2674 yard pair coming out of the service area preparing to enter the north yard ladder region as soon as she clears the 39th Street Bridge... and the remaining group of pictures were unusable on this pair because by the next frame, the lens was again coated in rain which I failed to notice until post-processing. So much for taking one for the team and thinking I was blocking most of the heavy rain with my body topped with an arm over the camera. If nothing else, I presume to have provided a wonderfully hilarious sight to those working out in this muck - a jolly old fat dude in Sunday best standing out in the rain. At least I wouldve found it funny, but was smart enough not to laugh out loud, because with an open mouth, the chance of drowning in the heavy rain was a real possibility. |

Im certainly not going to tell you what to believe, but Im not betting against her getting a long string of green signals when that particular engineer puts her on eight. BNSF And Outbound Amtrak |
Description: |
Amtrak Cabbage 90250 brings up the rear of Amtrak Cascades #504 as it rolls out of Vancouver. The odd piece of equipment is an NPCU (Non-Powered Control Unit), similar to a cab car. This NPCU is made out of an old Amtrak F40PHR, and was originally built as Amtrak 250 in 1977. When the F40s were retired from mainline service on Amtrak, a handful of them had their engines and traction motors removed, and the empty space filled with a baggage compartment. This earned the units the nickname "Cabbages" (portmanteau of Cab and Baggage). In its 45 year career with Amtrak, the "Cabbage" has worn a total of 4 liveries, plus a commemorative wrap. |

BNSF Yard Power |
Description: |
The Vancouver Amtrak station bustles with activity on a sunny June Thursday. As BNSF 2674 idles next to the west side platform, 2236 drills the south end of the Vancouver yard. The dispatcher has their hands full, shuffling the yard job between two grain trains and an Amtrak Cascades train, all due to pass throug the junction in a span of 50 minutes. |

Amtrak and BNSF Crowd The South End |
Description: |
The south end of the Vancouver yard is hopping with activity. Preparing to depart the station is Amtrak Cascades #504. The Vancouver Center signal bridge (right) shows green-over-red, giving permission for the train to depart. The train will take the northbound main track (Seattle Subdivision Main 2) to its next stop at Kelso. Simultaneously, a grain train is entering the Vancouver wye from the east (out of frame). This train will follow the Amtrak northbound after a crew change. A yard switcher, BNSF 2236, drills the south end of the yard in the meantime (headlight visible at right). On a sidetrack, BNSF 2674 is fired up prior to its next assignment. |

BNSF 2674 Idling |
Description: |
GP39-3 2674 idles on a side track at Vancouver. 2674, an ex-Santa Fe unit, was built as a GP35 in 1965, and has been based in the Pacific Northwest for the past 9 years. Note that the cab-mounted headlights and marker lights have been removed and plated over on this unit. This change would have occured in the early 2000s. |
