PC 6511 |
Description: |
This train is approaching my grandmothers house in next town north Bergenfield, NJ. Her house had two stories on Front St. On the second on the front of the house was a sunroom that was roughly fifty feet from the railhead of the busy four track New York Central West Shore Line. This shot taken in 1976 by my good friend Steve which means I was long into girls and not reallypaying attention to the formation of CONRAIL, still kick myself. But check out that GENERAL ELECTRIC U25C leading a northbound. CP-10 |

"Horseshoe Curve Pictorial," Page 42, 2004 |
Description: |
Here is page 11 of a 12-page camera study entitled "Horseshoe Curve Pictorial." It was published originally in the Winter 2004 issue of "Keystone" magazine, page 42. Top Photo, Partial Caption: "PC (ex-PRR) snappers U-25c #6511 and SD-35 #6032 earning their keep on a westbound freight ascending Horseshoe Curve on March 2, 1969." Both "snappers" were built in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. Penn Central engine #6511 was built by General Electric, but #6032 was built by GM-EMD. Bottom Photo, Partial Caption: "Here, a mixed lashup of six diesels descends while one of the Pennsy's 'patented' mail and express trains (with a few coaches thrown in at the end) climbs westbound with EMD passenger units in charge. June 1966." The last of the six eastbound diesels is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9829, an EF-15A built by GM-EMD in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. Both photos by Ken Murry. |
