Sweetland. Here is a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken in Hyndman, Pennsylvania, in March of 1961. It was published originally in his (2000) book entitled "Pennsylvania Railroad Color Pictorial: Volume One ~ Altoona To New York City," page 57. Partial Caption: "'Ike' and 'Mike,' as they were later called, were pulling cars from the B&O interchange at Hyndman, Pa., in March 1961. The Baltimore & Ohio station in the background was situated along its main tracks." Prominent here (R to L) are PRR engines #5595 and #5597. Both are BS-7M switchers built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in May of 1950 and rated at 750 horsepower each. In this context, they're on their way back to Altoona ~ via Hollidaysburg ~ with the "Cumberland Local." |
