Here is the second of four original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken from the 17th Street Bridge in the Juniata section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Prominent here is the "coast-to-coast" tender assigned to Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6432, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during September of 1943 and retired in April of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, they've just exited the East Altoona Roundhouse but have stopped short of the Bridge. |
