Here was a view from the train as Southern Railway 2-8-0 722 pulled out of New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal, on the beginning of its ferry trip back to the railroad’s steam shop in Birmingham. The locomotive had arrived in New Orleans on 28 March for the city’s very first Southern steam excursions, which ran to Hattiesburg, Mississippi and back on 3 and 4 April. |
