Louisville & Nashville 40-foot 50-ton box car 10917 was on an eastbound Missouri Pacific transfer run at New Orleans, on its way back to the L&N. The car had a CAPY of 110,000 pounds, a LD LMT of 132,100 pounds and a LT WT of 44,900 pounds, for a gross rail load of 177,000 pounds. Although the 10917 was labeled as a DF (damage free) car, it was lettered as a type XM instead of an XL because it had fewer than four interior side rails. It had been repainted at the railroad’s South Louisville Shops in September 1972. (approximate date of photo) |
