Louisiana promoted the 100th anniversary of Louis Armstrong's birth - and the origins of jazz - by operating a 4-day rail tour over the Kansas City Southern from Shreveport to New Orleans. (Armstrong was actually born on 4 August 1901, so the train was a year early!) The tour showcased different styles of Louisiana music and culture for magazine travel writers, and its arrival in New Orleans coincided with the start of the 2000 Jazz and Heritage Festival. Here was the train at Gonzales with FP9’s 1 and 2, an office car, two support cars, another office car, a diner and a third office car. |
