Mike Maskel General GREAT SHOT 6/12/2018 11:11:16 AM
Tom Beckett General I have not been there to do any serious photography in thirty years, but you used to be able to climb up the embankment on the south side of the valley, which yielded a good shot of a train on the bridge. Don't know if that is still accessible(or will get you arrested), though it may not matter, since it looks pretty seriously treed in. The DPU's are a regular feature of these trains, though they typically get two or three units up front. The reason for the DPU's is not the first leg to Pittsburg, it's the more challenging grades of the Heavener Sub, down through southern MO, northwest Ark, and Oklahoma, which is quite hilly. Almost all mineral and grain trains get them, as do many of the H and Q trains, though the Q trains make up is typically merchandise up front, with racks and intermodal on the rear. The DPU will be behind the regular freight, and ahead of the long cars. 6/13/2018 3:43:23 AM
