Southern Railway No. 194, the run-through train from the Southern Pacific at Houston to Birmingham, was raising quite a racket as it rolled across the Seabrook drawbridge on its way out of New Orleans. The bridge spans the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal, which connects the Mississippi River to Lake Pontchartrain, just off to the right. The sign next to the first car showed that the speed limit on the bridge was 45. |
