| The Rock Island was the first to get the new F 40s, since it had the oldest power, most in need of updating. They were still running an E 6 and some E 7s on their Joliet trains til earlier that year. The first batch of F 40s is lined up at La Salle St, ready to go onto their trains for the evening rush. The Rock was still running the Quad Cities and Peoria Rockets at the time, behind E 8s. Looking back, it was quite a show. I wish I had paid more attention to it. |
