Seaboard System New Orleans (LA) bound train #415 is giving Hamlet (NC) bound train #414 a shove up the hill, out of the siding, and away from downtown as the crew prepares to cut off "on the fly"
414 could not start its train after stopping in the siding to meet its counterpart, train #415. In a common practice at this location during this era, the "push" is being made against the cab of the eastbound train climbing away from Opelika. The crossing/interlocking with Southern Railway's Columbus-Birmingham "P" line is just to the right of the lead locomotive. The east end of the Opelika siding is just beyond the interlocking
