Craig, do you know if the GP30 was added as a "Cajon helper" that would be cutoff at Yermo or perhaps Las Vegas? I'm assuming that the DD35A/DD35/GP9B would've been the road power since those models were the heavy power over Cajon Pass and Cima Hill during the early `70s. Really nice shot of a bygone era.

Just re-read your picture's caption and noted it was a "westbound"; so maybe the GP30 was tacked on at Yermo to add its dynamic braking for the trip down Cajon?

This consist was put together either in Las Vegas or SLC.UP ran all kinds of lashups cross country.
