Burlington Northern Railroad U23C 5200 in the dead line at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in May 1981, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in April 1969 (c/n 36988), it became BN 5200 and was retired by the BN in June 1984. It is seen here in storage at Cicero. It was the first of nine U23C's ordered by the CB&Q (road #'s 460-468), the last new locomotives acquired by the Q before the BN merger, and the only CB&Q GE locomotives not delivered in Chinese Red paint. The U23C's were delivered in the per-merger green with three white chevrons on the nose. |
