Rock Island Railroad SW8 832 at Lumber Street in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in August 1978, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Rock Island 832 was built in November 1952 ( c/n 16630 ) on EMD Order 4185, and later became Coors C989. It is seen here at the south end of the Chicago Union Station tracks over the south branch of the Chicago River. Both the Rock Island switcher and C&NW bi-levels are somewhat out of place at this location. At the time of this photo, both the C&NW and Rock Island's suburban services were operated by the Regional Transportation Authority ( RTA, later, Metra ), so this may be an equipment transfer. |
