Note the crew bus in lower left of the frame. Number 300 was rebuilt in March 1931 from number 1400 ( built in 1900 by the CB&Q at Aurora, Illinois as KCStJ&CB 508, later H&StJ 508 ).

Number 304 was built by the CB&Q at Havelock, Nebraska as Burlington & Missouri River Railroad 69, renumbered to B&MR 3051, renumbered in 1904 to CB&Q 1460, rebuilt to shop switcher!304 in March 1931.

Bassett, Chuck Zeiler collection. It would appear that most of the Fireman's side of the cab was occupied by a coal bunker filled through the roof hatch.

Description:  CB&Q 0-6-0T shop switcher 308 at Galesburg, Illinois on March 4, 1954, photographer unknown, print by Tom Klinger, Chuck Zeiler. Number 308 was built in 1909 by the CB&Q at Aurora as class G-3 0-6-7 (with teneer) 1482. It was rebuilt as a shop switcher in March 1931 and renumbered 308.

Description:  At first glance at this original slide, the locomotive number appears to be #30 but upon closer examination, there is either the number "6" or "8" hidden in the shadow. After conversing with Chuck Zeiler, it has several features of #308. Unfortunately no information came with this slide so the date and location are approximations. If anyone can help confirm this, it would be appreciated.

Title:  CB&Q 0-6-0T 314
Description:  CB&Q 0-6-0T shop switcher 314 at Galesburg, Illinois on October 31, 1951, photo by P. H. Stringham, print by G. T. Felstead, Chuck Zeiler coilection. According to the book, Steam Locomotive Of The Burlington Route, this locomotive was built by CB&Q's Havelock, Nebraska shops as a conventaonal 0-6-0 with tender around 1900 as B&MR 67, renumbered to B&MR 3050 in 1903, renumbered to CB&Q class G-3 1459 in 1904. At an unknown date it was rebuilt to a shop switcher, and retired 06/47. That retirement date conflicts with the date 10-31-51 written on the back of the print. Note the drawbars in the front coupler.

Description:  Hooppole Yorktown & Tampico Rail Road 0-6-0 1315 at Hooppole, Illinois on August 13, 1941 photograph by Paul Stringham, J.S. Huber Collection. Number 1315 was built by the CB&Q at the company shops ( location not specified ) in 1887 as Kansas City Saint Joseph & Council Bluffs 0-6-0 number 42, renumbered in 1898 to KCStJ&CB 510, renumbered again in 1904 to CB&Q 1315 and classed G-1, sold to the HY&T in September 1927 where it servied until the end of service on the HY&T in 1954.

Title:  CB&Q 0-6-0 Class G-1 1344
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 0-6-0 Class G-1 1344 at an unknown location in 1914, photographer unknown. According to the book, Steam Locomotives Of The Burlington Route, by Bernard G. Corbin and William F. Kerka, number 1344 was built in 1889 as an 0-6-0 by CB&Q's West Burlington Shops as number 298, renumbered in 1898 to 1298, renumbered again in 1904 to 1344, and was retired in August 1921.

Hol Wagner adds: I'm fairly sure the 1344 is simply doing one of its designed chores: shoving a tender, disconnected from its locomotive, into the Ottumwa roundhouse for repair or temporary storage while the locomotive was worked on. And the roundhouse is almost certainly at Ottumwa, the 1344 being assigned to the Ottumwa Division in 1914.

The chosen date and location based on the June 1, 1935 CB&Q Locomotive Assignment Sheet. Number 1684 was built by the CB&Q's West Burlington, Iowa Shops in 1905 as CB&Q 1504, renumbered in 1910 to 1684 and classed as G-6. It was retired in November 1938.
