Description:  Illinois Central GP10 8146 and two empty Southern Railway insulated box cars from a local beer distributor were tied up just north of the former Gulf Mobile & Ohio depot in Covington, Louisiana. The train was all made up, and the next morning a station wagon would bring a crew down from Bogalusa to take the train back there.

Title:  ICG Wreck 4
Description:  On 1 April 1975 the Illinois Central Gulf local heading south on the former Gulf Mobile & Ohio main line between Bogalusa and Slidell, Louisiana was diverted into the spur at Florenville and collided with some stored cars. Lead unit 8158 had been rebuilt from GP9 9158 in May 1968. After the wreck it returned to the railroad's shop at Paducah, Kentucky for some major work and re-entered service in April 1977 as ICG 8126. As bad as the damage was, there were no fatalities. Engineer Luther Walley survived on the walkway behind the cab, while another trainman was in the trailing unit.

Description:  Illinois Central GP10 8167 was on an outbound train on the ICG’s SHORE LINE DISTRICT in Mandeville, Louisiana as it made its way from Covington, to Bogalusa. The loaded pulpwood cars on the front of the train had been picked up at a woodyard about half way between Covington and Abita Springs, and were on their way to the Crown Zellerbach paper mill in Bogalusa. Pulpwood was also loaded at Lacombe, and this would be picked up further along the line. This was a former Gulf Mobile & Ohio branch. (approximate date of photo)
