This was a typical hot, humid, hazy day in the Smoky Mountains. This is one of two daily excursion trains which the GSMR runs. This one departs Bryson City, NC at 10:30am and heads West to Hewitt, NC where the train pulls into a siding, the locomotives run around the train and the train heads back to Bryson City. Due to the length of their stay and the old curcuits, GSMR deactivaed the crossing here in Whittier. Had they not, the crossing would have stayed active for the entire 2 hours or so they were there. A GSMR employee flagged the crossing when they made their run around. |
