Title:  MILW 4-6-0 #1173 - Milwaukee Road
Description:  Nearing the end of its life, Milwaukee Road 4-6-0 #1173 sits peacefully in the Marquette, IA yard. Originally built by Baldwin & Company in November of 1899 as Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul Vauclain compound 4-6-0 ten wheeler #241, it was renumbered many times - in 11/1905 to CMStP #879, renumbered in 9/1912 to CMStP 4126, simplified & renumbered in 2/1921 to #2384 and finally renumbered CMStP&P #1173. After nearly 55 years of service, the loco was scrapped in April of 1954. Simplfied specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 19x26" cylinders, engine wt of 165,000 lb, tractive effort of 25,327 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.

Description:  During its lifetime, Milwaukee Road #1187 has had 6 different numbers. Starting in December of 1895 when it was built by Baldwin (Burnham, Wms & Co), the loco was originally Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul Vauclain compound 4-6-0 ten wheeler #829 but it didn't stay that way for long - renumbered in 4/1899 to CMStP #202, renumbered in 11/1905 to CMStP #840, rebuilt & renumbered in 3/1913 to CMStP #2252, and finally renumbered in 7/1938 to CMStP&P #1187. After serving nearly 50 years, the loco was scrapped in October of 1945. Simplified specs - 63" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 19x26" cylinders, modest engine wt of 132,500 lb nad modest tractive effort of 22,794 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.

Description:  Built by the Burnham, Wms & Company (Baldwin predecessor) in December of 1895, the loco was originally Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul Vauclain compound 4-6-0 #830 but not for long. It was renumbered in 4/1899 to CMStP #203, renumbered in 11/1905 to CMStP #841, renumbered in 12/1912 to CMStP #4003, rebuilt & renumbered in 7/1914 to CMStP #2253, and finally renumbered in 6/1938 to CMStP&P #1188. After serving nearly 50 years, the loco was scrapped in October of 1945. Description:  This loco started out as Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul Vauclain compound 4-6-0 #833 built by the Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin) in December of 1895. It didn't remain that for too long - re numbered in 4/1899 to CMStP #206, renumbered in 11/1905 to CMStP #844, renumbered in 11/1912 to CMStP #4006, rebuilt & renumbered in 7/1914 to CMStP #2256, and finally renumbered in 7/1938 to CMStP&P #1191. After serving nearly 50 years, the loco was scrapped in October of 1945. It didn't stay that way too long - renumbered in 4/1899 to CMStP #212, renumbered in 12/1905 to CMStP #850, renumbered in 1/1913 to CMStP #4012, simplified & renumbered in 6/1915 to CMStP 2262, renumbered in 7/1938 to CMStP&P #1197. The locos's last milage was on 8/22/1945 and it was scrapped later in October of 1945. Description:  Obviously taken as this once proud locomotive now sits in the dead/scrap line. Originally built in August of 1897 by Burnham, Wms & Company (Baldwin predecessor) as Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul #845, it was a Vauclain compound 4-6-0 ten wheeler. It didn't stay #845 for long - renumbered in 4/1899 to CMStP #214, renumbered in 11/1905 to CMStP #852, renumbered in 11/1912 to CMStP #4014, simplified & renumbered in 6/1915 to CMStP 2264, renumbered in 7/1938 to CMStP&P #1198. It was scrapped later inMay of 1940. Simplified specs - 63" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 19x26" cylinders, modest engine wt of 132,500 lb and modest tractive effort of 22,794 lb. Title:  MILW 4-6-0 #2270, (Chicago, Milwaukee'St Paul & Pacific)
Description:  Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in October 1903 as number 35 for the Southern Indiana Rwy, renumbered in 1904 to 315, to Chicago Terre Haute & Sozth Eastern 315 in 1910, to CM&StP 2270 in September 1922, scrapped in October 1934. It had 54" drivers and developed 190 psi boiler pressure. This is a Jim Adams photo.
