Description: |
Fairly nice b&w photo of ATSF 2-6-2 Prairie style steam locomotive #1060. Built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin predeceor) in March of 1902, the loco served well in passenger service throughout the system. The loco was originally built as a Vauclain compound loco but was simplified by the ATSF Topeka shops in 1912 and then superheated in 1918. Specs - serial #20181, class 1050, 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 17x28" high pressure cylinders, 28x28" low pressure cylinders, engine weight of 190,000 lb, tractive effort of 29,134 lb. The loco is nearing its retirement as the entire class was retired by 1956 with the exception of a dozen that were preserved at various locations. No photographer was listed for this photo. |
