Title:
"Long Island Rail Road," Page 46, 1949
Description:
Here is page seven of a ten-page article by Rae Ediger entitled "Long Island Rail Road." It was published originally in the March 1949 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 46. Photo Captions: "On a railroad as heavily trafficked as the Long Island, the number of trains to handle a given flow of passengers is a matter of vast concern, hence LIRR's enthusiastic development of the ultra-efficient double-deck coach. Inside these 132-passenger cars, you have your choice of stepping up or down; parent-Pennsylvania's [Altoona Shops] builds them." Prominent here is LIRR #1347, an MP-70 double-deck electrified coach built about 1938.
